Julie Purcell
Certified Kids Life Coach
Mindful Kids
Hi, my name is Julie Purcell and I am the founder of Mindful Kids with Kids Life Studio.
My journey in working with kids and wanting to teach began in 6th grade. I struggled in school as a kid (not realizing until adulthood that I had ADHD.) I thought that I was not intelligent, suffered from low self-esteem and self-confidence. I was headed down a path of self-destruction until a teacher SAW me. That teacher worked with me tirelessly afterschool helping me catch up on curriculum that I had fallen behind on and helped me to start believing in myself. She used to tell me that I was the Little Engine Who Could. I firmly believe that she is the reason that I am alive today.
I know the importance that one adult can make in a kid’s life. I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in kids’ lives, just like my special teacher did. I wanted kids to see themselves as special, important, valued and loved. About 8 years ago, I discovered mindfulness and meditation and began implementing it in my classroom. This was before social emotional (SEL) curriculum was as common as it is today. I couldn’t get enough of learning about the brain, and the way the brain works, along with all the strategies, tools, and techniques I was learning. I was excited to share all this knowledge with my students.
I decided about 2 years ago that I wanted to be a life coach for kids and started pursuing it as another avenue for me to share this newfound knowledge with kids. My goal is to empower children to become leaders of their own lives by learning to embracing themselves for their uniqueness and their inner magic. In the words of Walt Disney, “Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children.”
When I am not teaching or coaching, I am a mom to two amazing boys. Together, we love the beach and anything water related, cooking, listening to music, going to plays and shows, playing board games, watching movies and spending time with our family and friends.
